Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a powerful healing art that originated in the ancient tradition of Chinese Medicine. Needles are inserted in points on the body that give access to the foundational energies that compose the body and maintain its function. Acupuncture is the only medicinal practice that works directly with what is known as the "energy body" of the human being.
Acupuncture is quickly becoming one of the most popular health therapies. Its rise in popularity is due not only due to its lack of invasiveness (it causes no substantial side effects) but also because it is remarkably effective in dealing with all issues, from pain management, to breaking patterns of chronic illness, to even psychological or spiritual ordeals. Acupuncture is currently regarded as the best treatment for back pain and is a powerful antidote for stress and those who cannot relax. Acupuncture has also been proved to balance hormones, affect neurotransmitter function and production, aid in breaking addictions such as cigarettes, reduce fatigue and anxiety, balance menstrual problems, relieve digestive dysfunctions, remedy depression and even transform lives. The scope of what acupuncture treats is everyday expanding...
Acupuncture is a tool of Traditional Chinese Medicine and not a medicine unto itself. It is an enormously complex art in theory and yet simple in practice. The ancient Chinese understood that within the human body is not just the vital fluid of blood but a more immaterial, vital substance which they named 'qi'. Qi has loosely been translated as energy but it is much more than blind force. It is a dynamic force with many intelligent functions that are essential for all life to exist. The ancients perceived that this qi actually flows through the human body through a network of meridians or channels, akin to the blood vessels. They also discovered that along these channels are various points where the qi can be stimulated using needles. Moreover, each point has its own characteristic functions that when needled manipulates the flow of qi in potent ways and on levels of physiology, mind and spirit.
In the Inner Tradition, the acupuncture points are regarded as points that tap into our original nature, or, the original blueprint of our being. In this way, acupuncture points connect us to our virtuous self that is untarnished from anything in life. Perhaps this is way most people feel extraordinary relaxation following a treatment with acupuncture needles, or even a wiping away of depression and renewed vitality.
Acupuncture needles are very thin, much thinner than the hypodermic needles used by physicians to inject patients or extract blood. For the most part, insertion of acupuncture needles into the body is painless. What sensation is felt is termed 'de qi' or arrival of the qi: upon insertion, a patient may feel a rush of energy to the point, or a slight sensation that quickly dissipates. Even in the most sensitive individuals, this is easily tolerable, especially considering the gentle serenity that comes during a treatment. All needles used are disposable, used once only.
"Because the meridians influence every cell in the body and pass through every organ and organ system, acupuncture provides health practitioners with an accurate and noninvasive means of determining health deficiencies, as well as a method of reestablishing balance."
